What does HDPE mean in a PET bottle cap specification?
A cap may be described as intended for a PET bottle while its technical sheet lists HDPE. These details refer to different components: the bottle material and the cap’s raw material. Purchasing decisions should consider the product name, full product code and technical sheet together.
PET bottle, HDPE cap: is there a contradiction?
The expression PET bottle cap may describe the bottle on which the cap will be used; it does not, by itself, mean that the cap is made from PET. To identify the cap material, consult the Raw material field in the technical sheet. HDPE stands for high-density polyethylene. This distinction allows the components of the same package to be assessed without confusing them.
How should an actual Peksan technical sheet be read?
Technical sheet KK.UB-64, dated 12.06.2024, revision 0, describes product code 028.016CTP10B as a PCO 1881 PET bottle cap. The Raw material field lists HDPE (Polymer), the neck material is listed as PET, and the neck size as 28 mm 1881 PCO. PET and HDPE here are not two different names for the same component. This example applies only to this product and document version; request the current technical sheet before ordering.
Why is 28 mm alone insufficient?
Diameter is useful for initial selection, but it does not, by itself, establish a cap’s suitability for a particular bottle. In this example, the sheet includes the designation 1881 PCO alongside 28 mm. Compare your bottle supplier’s neck drawing and standard with the current technical sheet for the selected cap code. Use the product’s technical record rather than deriving its dimensions from an arbitrary number in the product description.
What does the material name not tell you?
The designation HDPE does not mean that different caps will deliver the same results under the same filling conditions. The contents, bottle neck, capping setup and conditions of use must be assessed together. Do not apply one product’s technical values to other caps. Before placing a production order, verify suitability for the application using a sample of the relevant product and its current technical sheet.
Are recyclability and recycled content the same thing?
No. The first concerns assessment of recycling after use; the second concerns the origin of the raw material used in production. The KK.UB-64 sheet examined here states that no post-consumer recycled plastic is used; this information applies only to the specified document version. EPBP guidance notes that closure composition can affect PET recycling. This general guidance is not a recyclability certificate for this Peksan product. When adding a sustainability requirement to your quotation request, state clearly which characteristic you require and which document should verify it.
What information should a quotation request include?
Share the full cap code, the date and revision of the technical sheet you hold, the bottle neck drawing or standard, the product to be filled, the filling and capping conditions, and the estimated annual quantity. For example: We request the current technical sheet and a sample for 028.016CTP10B; our bottle neck drawing is attached. Our filling conditions are …, and our estimated annual requirement is … units. This request provides a clearer technical starting point than simply saying that you need a PET cap.
