Metal can handles: what should the mounting drawing show?

Container volume and a handle’s overall width do not establish mounting compatibility. Use Peksan 038.060HSM10N to distinguish the mating-part drawing, attachment area and information needed for a sample enquiry.

The handle drawing describes only one side of the connection

Peksan 038.060HSM10N is a small HDPE handle for metal containers. Technical sheet KK.UB-27, Rev01 dated 15 February 2021, describes 5-litre metal containers as an application example. This does not establish compatibility with every 5-litre can or approval for a particular carrying load.

Do not use the 59.3 mm overall width shown in the drawing as the container’s attachment spacing. Nor does the 038 prefix identify a 38 mm neck connection: the neck-diameter field contains no value for this product. You need the current drawing of the metal part that retains the handle alongside the handle drawing.

What belongs on the mating-part drawing?

Show the geometry of the metal retaining part, the areas that contact the handle and the relevant thicknesses. Include the handle’s intended movement space, the can body and nearby closures or projections. Identify the surfaces between which dimensions are measured and the drawing revision.

This guide does not specify a hole pattern or attachment dimensions. Request a controlled drawing from the mating-part manufacturer instead of filling gaps by scaling a product photograph. Similar appearance is not evidence of an equivalent connection.

Use photographs to explain the drawing

Share an overall view of the can, a close-up of the metal attachment and the handle in its intended use position after assembly according to instructions. Show its stowed position where applicable. These views let both parties discuss contact points, hand clearance and interference with other components on the same sample. Photographs do not replace dimensions and tolerances.

Describe a sample that will not attach, binds or becomes marked during assembly separately: at which step, in which area and with which assembly method? A fit achieved by reshaping the component afterwards is not acceptance of the specified assembly process.

Separate mounting fit from carrying acceptance

This product’s sheet specifies an application temperature of 20–25 °C and at least 24 hours at application temperature before use. Prepare samples accordingly and record manual and automatic application results separately. The sheet gives no application-force value; do not infer a universal force limit.

An attached handle alone does not establish suitability for carrying the filled package. Agree methods and acceptance criteria with the responsible technical team for the actual filled mass and use. HSE recommends planning handling and using suitable assistance. That general guidance is not a product load certificate.

What to include in a sample or quotation enquiry

Send the product code, sheet revision, dimensioned metal mating-part drawing, can sample, assembly method and any contact problem together. Keep missing attachment dimensions separate from carrying assessments that have not yet been performed. When requesting a Peksan 038.060HSM10N sample, stating the question to resolve gives a more concrete basis for matching than simply asking for a handle for a 5-litre can.
