Choosing a 38 mm bottle cap: why size alone is not enough
A cap described as 38 mm is not necessarily suitable for every 38 mm bottle. Consider size together with connection type, thread starts, material and sealing option.
Distinguish diameter from short edge
The dimension in the Peksan product filter represents either diameter or short edge, depending on the product. Check the explanation in parentheses. Two products with the same numerical dimension should not be assumed to share the same connection.
Same size, different connection details
The product name of 038.015CTP10B specifies three thread starts; that of 038.017CTP10B specifies two. Both are listed as 38 mm and HDPE. The comparison below does not mean that they are interchangeable. Matching requires the packaging drawing, current technical data sheet and sample validation.
What does PET in a product name mean?
PET Bottle in a product name identifies the associated packaging. It does not, by itself, mean that the closure is manufactured from PET resin. For example, 028.016CTP10B is listed as a PET bottle closure with HDPE in its material field.
Specify the liner option separately
The product name of 038.022CTO10E includes an EPE foam liner or induction-sealing aluminium foil as options. This record does not mean that every option has been validated with your packaging and filling line. State the required option explicitly in your enquiry.
Information to include in a sample enquiry
Complete product code and variant; neck drawing and revision; connection and known standard; liner and special material requirements; filling, transport and storage conditions; sample acceptance criteria. Recording operating conditions in a technical enquiry does not add an application filter to the product list.
Why do we not recommend one torque value?
The public scope of ASTM D2063/D2063M-24 covers torque-retention measurement for continuous-thread closures using manual equipment. It does not define a universal application torque for every 38 mm cap. Settings and acceptance values must be validated using the relevant technical documents and test plan.
