How should you choose a flexible spout cap for a metal container?
What does a flexible spout cap do?
A flexible spout cap closes a metal container and provides a movable pouring outlet. The container opening, cap body and opening arrangement must work together. Container capacity in litres is therefore not a sufficient basis for selecting the closure.
With a tear-off design, the user opens the designated section at first use. This feature is separate from subsequent opening and reclosing. Evidence of first opening should not be interpreted as child resistance or as a guarantee of product safety under every condition.
Distinguish the 32 mm and 42 mm products
The Peksan catalogue identifies 032.020CSM11B as a 32 mm two-piece flexible spout snap-on closure for metal containers, and 042.021CSM21B as the 42 mm version. Both product names identify a tear-off membrane. Read the snap-on connection and bore-seal information alongside the specific product code.
Do not begin by assuming that the two products are interchangeable. Establish the match using the container drawing and the closure’s current technical sheet. Nominal size alone does not fully describe the opening geometry, application force or sealing behaviour.
Consider the contents and conditions of use
A package being assessed for edible oil may face different requirements from one intended for another chemical. Cap colour and appearance are not evidence of chemical resistance. Evaluate product-contact components together with information about the filled product and temperatures.
A material named in an old promotional article should not be treated as the specification for every current product. If a particular material or solvent compatibility is required, state it in the enquiry and request verified information for the selected code. Do not assume a sealing or long-term storage result without appropriate testing.
Which functions should a sample trial cover?
Apply the sample to the actual metal container opening. Assess seating, the first-opening feature, movement of the spout, pouring behaviour and reclosing together. Define test conditions and acceptance criteria for sealing trials that represent filling, transport and storage.
Follow the packaging instructions when opening. Do not try to obtain a fit by forcing or modifying the movable component with a cutting tool. Difficult pouring or leakage calls for an assessment of the container and closure samples together, rather than an immediate switch to another nominal diameter.
Provide the product code, opening drawing, contents, application conditions and order quantity when requesting a quotation. Do not assume that a size absent from the catalogue will enter production or become available on a particular date. Feasibility and supply conditions for special requests require separate confirmation.
