Choosing closures for food and cleaning-product packaging

An application name does not establish suitability

Descriptions such as milk-bottle cap, ayran closure or detergent cap identify an intended application. Products bearing the same description may not work on the same bottle, at the same temperature or on the same filling line. Selection must consider the bottle, closure and contents as a system.

Food and cleaning-product packaging should not be assumed to have identical requirements. Colour, a general polymer name or an application example is not evidence of compatibility with a particular formulation. Request information for the specific product code and conditions.

Dairy and other liquid foods

Include the neck drawing, filling and storage temperatures, capping arrangement and product properties in the technical enquiry. Assess sealing, opening and reclosure requirements together. Check that any relevant conformity or test documentation covers the selected product and conditions.

A general closure description cannot guarantee shelf life or hygiene performance. Cold-chain, hot-fill or other processing requirements need separate assessment. The external appearance of the package does not describe the performance of the complete filling system.

Oil and detergent packaging

Bottle design and pouring behaviour can matter for edible oil. Detergent packaging also requires consideration of formulation, dispensing and reclosure during use. Do not assume that different products share the same chemical characteristics. Contact with the package throughout storage and transport belongs in the test plan.

Specify pumps, trigger sprayers or pouring features separately from closure attachment. A component that fits the bottle does not automatically provide the required dispensing or spray behaviour. Verify the feature with the particular model and actual product.

Technical enquiries and samples

Provide Peksan with the bottle drawing, complete closure code, contents, temperatures and quantity when requesting a match. A change to the bottle or filled product may require reassessment rather than automatic reuse of an earlier result.

Evaluate feeding, capping, opening, sealing and intended use with samples. Record acceptance criteria beforehand. This supports decisions based on concrete packaging requirements rather than application labels; the same closure or machine setting should not be recommended for every product.
